I really meant to study

I meant to study today, I really did. But I’ve hit that point in the semester where every feeble attempt at study seems pointless. I lost my way shortly before the midterm and have been scrambling to catch up ever since. Koine Greek is like math in that sense: each lesson builds on the last and if you don’t understand something in a lesson and fall behind, it will take you that much longer to grasp all that comes after. Amazingly enough, my grades in Greek have not been all that bad. I’m not sure what the final will be like, but I am thinking it will more than likely be the low point of the semester for me.

I sat for a few hours this morning working on a translation assignment and got halfway through before abandoning the effort in disgust. Disgust because I squandered precious holiday weekend time loafing and playing World of Warcraft instead of studying. Not that I played WoW all that much. Not by a long shot. I didn’t feel much in the mood to do anything and just sort of slept a lot and watched TV and played WoW here and there.

I’m hoping the holiday break from work and school does a bit to reenergize me for the spring semester. I’ll be taking Greek II and Greek Exegesis next semester. I will more than likely need to spend some of the time during the holiday break going over the things I learned (or failed to learn) this semester in preparation for the coming semester.

I’m just hoping I can relax a bit and enjoy the holiday and the presence of Jesus as we celebrate his birthday. I really want it to be about him. Advent starts next Sunday and I am really looking forward to some time of quiet reflection as we enter the season and prepare for the coming year.

That’s what this season is all about: preparation. And I’m just not feeling ready.
