What I’ve Been Up To For the Last Seven Months
Been a while since I’ve posted or even thought of this little corner of cyberspace with my name on it. I’ve just been too busy with work and school and life to write. Even when I have a few spare moments, I’m usually just too tired to do anything but actually relax with my leisure time. Still, far busier people than me manage to blog on a nearly daily basis (Dr. Corné Bekker of Regent University’s School of Global Leadership & Entrepreneurship comes to mind) so it really boils down to a matter of self-discipline: Making the time to write whether one wants to or not.
Self-discipline is something I’ve never really been good at. My wife on the other hand, recently took an Emotional Intelligence Quotient Test and scored very highly on impulse control. Which makes me especially glad I’m married to her, since she keeps me from committing ongoing random acts of stupidity. Daniel Goleman, author of Emotional Intelligence: Why It Can Matter More Than IQ considers the ability to delay gratification one of the more significant components of emotional intelligence. Fascinating stuff, but enough navel-gazing.
The last couple of months have been extremely busy with looking for, buying, and moving into a house, all while working full-time and going to school part-time. I probably should’ve taken the summer off from school but I didn’t. Now I have a brief three weeks to rest up and get ready for the fall semester which begins at the end of August.
Overall, though, life’s been really, really good and I’ve been enjoying sitting out in the backyard in the evenings with my wife and the dogs. I just picked up an Xbox 360 and a Nintendo Wii
, so I’m looking forward to nothing but good books and gaming until the fall semester starts up again! Oh, and I still need to get my World of Warcraft
warrior up to level 70 before the next expansion comes out, so that should keep me busy!
